Morris Ritz graduated in 1982 with a degree in medicine from South Africa’s Witwatersrand University and was awarded the Sonya Walker Prize in physiology.
Once finished his medical degree, he went on to undertake a post-graduate course focussing on reconstructive plastic surgery. After he completed these studies Dr Morris Ritz spent a year at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Melbourne, Australia as a microsurgery research and hand fellow.
Dr Ritz returned to South Africa in 1992, and gained a fellowship with honour from The Colleges of Medicine of South Africa. In addition to running his own private practise he headed the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the largest acute hospital in the world- Johannesburg’s Baragwanath Hospital- from 1992 to 1995. In 1997, after receiving a fellowship in plastic surgery from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS), Mr Morris Ritz was appointed senior registrar at The Austin Hospital and Repatriation Medical Centre for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
Specialising in breast reconstruction, microsurgery, aesthetic surgery, skin cancer surgery and hand surgery, Dr Morris Ritz has become a highly regarded plastic surgeon. He has been awarded many honours including The Colleges of Medicine of South Africa’s Phyllis Knocker/Bradlow Award for the most distinguished graduate in academic excellence and the Synthes Prize for best publication from the Association of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons of Southern Africa. Since winning these awards he has been professionally published and has toured Australia and overseas expansively presenting seminars.
Dr Morris Ritz is a proud member of The Association of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons of South Africa, the Society of Hand Surgery of South Africa, Australian Medical Association, the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons and the Australasian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons.
